Description

The serial juxtaposes gothic trappings with the scenic English Village setting, throws in some engaging characters, and plenty of solid action by HAVOC, resulting in an occasionally silly but ever-entertaining story of devil worshippers, strange witchcraft and alien gargoyles. I recommend the UK limited edition over the US version of this set because the packaging is nicer, it includes a booklet detailing the contents, and each disc label has different art work. New for this box set are some brand new features to support those which accompanied the DVD releases.

It’s a depressing story, set on a depressing planet which is again drawn out across two episodes more than it needed to be. Behind the Sofa - New episodes with Katy Manning, Stewart Bevan, Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton, Sacha Dhawan and Anjli Mohindra. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. The Blu-rays themselves are a must-own too, representing some of the best restoration we’ve seen yet across these Collection sets, with the picture and sound massively improved upon since the episodes were last released on DVD almost a decade ago.Prior to The War Games, where the Time Lords are an aloof, indistinct presence, the only named member of the Doctor’s race had been The Meddling Monk in The Time Meddler and it would be another 2 years before the Doctor’s home planet is finally named as Gallifrey in The Time Warrior. The Second is a convention presentation by John Pertwee that is by far one of the best such presentations I've ever seen. The Direct Route - Doctor Who directors Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe take an epic road trip to all the filming locations from Season 8 as they discuss directing the show in the early 1970s.

For those Coronation Street fans you will see a very young Helen Worth appear in Colony in Space before she became long suffering Gail Platt. In comes Katy Manning as Jo Grant, a more traditional companion than the outgoing Liz Shaw, and the Brigadier’s vague roster of UNIT troops is narrowed down to Captain Mike Yates (Richard Franklin) who wasn’t in the previous year and Sergeant Benton (John Levene) who appeared as far back as The Invasion, but only as a sort of glorified extra. This is the near-perfect UNIT Family story, with the cast operating as more of an ensemble than before or since.

Paul Vanezis mentioned how for this set he tested “The ambassadors of death” to see if most of season 8s not so great looking episodes could be updated/cleaner and there was some success.
