Description

The saga was finally concluded only in the 1770s, when, in a final flurry of lawsuits, Richard's bigamy ("irregular and immoral way of life", it was called) was at last exposed. There was, the House of Lords' Committee of Privileges announced, no legitimate heir to his ill-gotten titles: the earldom of Anglesea was extinct. This was not the predictable, anti-climactic ending that Ekirch, when he set out on the story, says he most feared, but "a bittersweet one, full of poetic justice. It truly bears out that old French adage: Revenge is a dish best served cold". Annesley, Knight, and Annora his wife, and of their father and mother. The original village of Aneslei was a small irregular built village in a picturesque location to the South of Annesley Hall. The old Annesley Village was completely demolished by 1850. At this time most people worked on the land for the two local landowners, the Chaworth Musters family and the Duke of Portland. With the coming of the Industrial Revolution all this changed. It is the time when attitudes are formed, which can affect the whole of your child’s education and his or her later life. Our school aims to provide a happy atmosphere, where positive attitudes are fostered, where your childfeels confident safe and secure, can mature socially, emotionally and educationally and can develop qualities of independence, self-discipline and respect for others, which will prepare them well for their next phase of education and eventually, their adult lives. Annesley Woodhouse and New Annesley although linked are two separate communities. New Annesley is in Annesley and Felley Parish and Annesley Woodhouse is in Ashfield. Both have their own identities. Looking over both communities is Annesley All Saints Church built in 1872 to 1874. Annesley Hall is a grade two listed building, once owned by the Chaworth-Musters family, which has connections to the Byron family of nearby Newstead Abbey. Annesley Old Church was mentioned by Lord Byron and D. H. Lawrence. There is also close by the earthworks of Annesley Castle. History

The Sherwood Business Park has expanded over the years and now includes light industry etc. It is now the largest employers in the area.

And after seven years spent with trial transcripts, family documents, newspaper reports, House of Lords records and a treasure trove of nearly 400 legal depositions unearthed in Dublin and at the National Archives in Kew, it is now clear to Ekirch that those Memoirs are, essentially, true. "Annesley wasn't the author, but he was the source of the information," he says. "You don't have to dig far to substantiate it." All Saints' church (C12 and later, listed grade I, scheduled ancient monument) is located to the north of Annesley Hall and is surrounded by a walled churchyard. In 1875 it was replaced as the parish church by the church in Annesley Woodhouse and in the late C20 it became unsafe and was partially demolished. The main entrance to the churchyard is off the A608. Steps immediately north-east of the Hall lead to a now (1999) disused entrance to the churchyard, 30m north-east from the Hall. There are views from the churchyard to the south over the parkland. Annesley J.
