The P1 MAX from TinHifi is another example of a budget friendly earphone with a planar magnetic driver that has an admittedly great audio performance for the price. The lower treble range of the original S12 sounds a tad more brightness and dynamism, compared to the S12 Pro version, which is a bit softer and forgiving in this area. Both are pretty equal in terms of upper treble extension and resolution, while the S12 Pro has the slightly edge in terms of authority when I listen to soprano voices or to instruments such like ride or crash cymbals. There is plenty of energy here and a touch of brilliance but only as much as is needed for giving a shining and luminous character to the sound never crossing the point to harshness and stridency. The rounded shape perfectly filled my ears, and when paired with the right tips, the S12 Pro gave me a very nice experience. To be fair, they aren’t as cozy as a semi-custom fit could be, but I’d still rate them a solid 8 out of 10 in this aspect and I’d place them above all the other models I’ve reviewed this year Isolation

The elegant kidney shaped earpieces are made of aluminium alloy, painted in blue as opposed to the grey of the original S12. As with the original S12, there is a chrome accented on the square protrusion on the face of the IEMs, rather like a top quality car with chrome trims. I must say the combination looks quite elegant to me, with the contrasting blue colour. The earpieces are medium sized with an almost flat inner side to the earpieces and quite light, although they brim with good quality. The selection of tips makes it easy to find a comfortable fit. It comes with three sets of silicone ear tips (small, medium, large) in softer and firmer silicone. There are also three pairs of foam ear tips for better isolation.FWIW, I'm streaming everything from Qobuz through a SMSL Sanskrit 10th Mk2 and amplified through a Drop+THX AAA-789. Balanced cables only. I know that's kinda overkill for IEM's but I wanted to make sure I wasn't running into the limitations of a USB dongle. The rear surface of LetShuoer S12 Pro features the slightly angled sound nozzle and one of the two vent holes, which is part of the rear acoustic chamber. LetShuoer (aka Shuoer) is a Chinese company located in Dongguan, Guangdong, China and is specialized in design and development of portable audio equipment’s such like Universal & Custom In-Ear Monitors and USB DAC/Amplifier (DT-02).

S12 Review: A Better, and Cheaper, Timeless? LETSHUOER S12 Review: A Better, and Cheaper, Timeless?

The same goes for the IMR EDP and EDP Ace, again like the I3s, the EDPs have been overshadowed by the S12 Pros for me. The EDP Ace however, comes fairly close with its DD bass and the note decay probably aided by piezo, the Planar Magnetic driver, if not the design of the chamber. The bass of the S12 Pro sounds just a tad fuller and especially in the midbass area. Both are pretty identical in terms of speed, layering and resolution. Instruments such like bass guitar, drums and cellos have a bit more weight and warmth compared to the original S12. The soundstage is wide and spacious with good positioning accuracy but it is mostly expanded in the horizontal axis without any significant depth layering and holographic relief. Inside of the S12 is LETSHOUER’s first-ever custom pair of 14.8mm planar drivers capable of pushing a respectable frequency range of 20Hz up to 20kHz. Mid-bass - On the other hand mid-bass is very well defined and full. Notes are clearly heard and for someone who plays the bass guitar can be easily distinguished. It is not only a question of boom boom, the bass guitarist is putting together notes at different tempo with interesting phrasing, if the listener cares to appreciate the work going into the music. If not, it is important to the listener that it all hangs together well, melodic and pushes the emotional buttons which draws us to music.

FWIW, the KATO is more neutral than the V-shaped S12 Pro. S12 Pro has more bass and treble, but the S12 Pro’s bass isn’t as tight, and the treble can be harsher and more sibilant on the S12 Pro. The S12 PRO is resolving, crystal clear and transparent in the mid-range with a natural voicing that is combined with the already excellent bass performance to make for an immersive and realistic listening experience perfectly suitable for classical music and not only.

In terms of quality, bass texturing is pillowy and sometimes can sound undefined, but bass speed is lightning fast and can cope with complex bass movements. There’s just a hint of mid-bass bleed, but thankfully the bass does not encroach much into the midrange. Midrange Sadly, there are no L and R markings on each end to identify the sides, but as per usual convention, the right terminal has a red marker. Case The provided case is practical and unobtrusive. The treble range of the LetShuoer S12 shows an above average grade of brightness and is able to create a good sense of clarity and airiness, while the extension is in general on an adequate level. The transitions in this area are in general fairly fast and controlled, when instruments do play with high level of distortion, thanks to the well-adjusted 14.8mm dia. Planar Magnetic Driver. Behind the (strange) name, two senior engineer: Danny To, ex engineer for Panasonic and sales director of a multinational technology company, and Jeff Wong, ex-head of Dah Chong Hong Group and Department director of ZhongSheng Group. Big heads, frustrated not to get their ideal sound, who decided to open up a company and create their own products – you know the drill. Due to our different ear anatomies, what works for someone may not work for another, when it comes to eartips. They not only affect comfort, but isolation and also tonality of the IEM. Is there any aspect of isolation or sound that you would like to change with eartips on the S12 Pro?The midbass region of the S12 is slightly more highlighted compared to the subbass area. It shows a decent sense of depth and impact when called upon, while the clarity and resolution is quite enough for a product at this price range. I didn’t notice any remarkable negative conditions such like muddiness or mixings when I have listen to songs like Gogo Penguin’s “Raven” or Charly Antolini’s “Duwadjuwandadu” that do have some complex bass passages.

At the rear surface of monitors are the L (Left) / R (Right) markings, the model branding and the serial number of each In-Ear Monitor.

The upper treble area is shows an audible elevation around the 7 – 8 kHz region that gives the overall presentation a good sense of airiness and sparkle. The LetShuoer S12 offers in general a decent level of resolution and upper treble extension, when I do listen to instruments like snare drums or cymbals. Instruments on the other hand, such like a cross drum, trumpet or bass guitar are reproduced with a good amount of intensity and with an efficient level of detail and speed, which fulfils my expectation from a product at this price level. The LetShuoer S12 Pro features a brand new detachable cable with a swappable headphone plug design. It’s a High Purity 4 core x 98 strand (392 strands in total) Silver-Plated Monocrystalline Copper wire cable. snare. Lots of the low-end vocals as well, because male vocals are going to have the fundamental below 200Hz in The LetShuoer S12 Pro shares the same shape with the original S12, which is a pretty compact monitor with a minimalistic industrial design. The monitor is made from a Five-Axis CNC machines Aluminum Alloy, which is a pretty lightweight & durable material. The monitor has a pretty smooth surface with a Blue (Space Blue) finish, which is a special color selection for the 6TH-Anniversary Deluxe Edition.
