DEWALT 20V MAX Reciprocating Saw, 3,000 Strokes Per Minute, Variable Speed Trigger, Bare Tool Only... Position your levering timbers either side of each slat and move them outwards until they touch your new fulcrum timbers then simply move your levering timbers outwards as you did in the steps above. Repeat for any further slats that need removing Step 3: Do not use a crowbar to try to twist the boards apart. You will make marks on them, and some will splinter. Instead, put the pallet on a flat surface like a floor, and place a piece of wood under the board, just next to the stringer you want to push off. Then with another piece of wood, you tap a few times on the stringer from above, and it will come off easily, without breaking the stringer or the boards it was attached to. There will be no nails in the stringers and only short nails on the boards. You can remove them easily with a small hammer and a prybar.

With the pry bars positioned, gently push them outwards and start levering the slat up taking your time as you go Breaking a pallet down using a reciprocating saw is one of the better techniques and if done with care, pretty much guarantees no damage to any slats. We hope these methods will help you to disassemble your pallets, particularly for those who don’t own a reciprocating saw (Sawzall) or have one at their disposal. Do you have another method to share? Share it with our readers through the comments and if you have some videos or tutorials, do not hesitate to send them to us, and we will update this article accordingly.

If you are reading this guide on how to break down a pallet, chances are that you have dabbled in the DIY world in the past and if you have then you should have the basic tools needed to break down a pallet, but just for completeness we’re going to run through the process of breaking down a pallet without using standard tools.

Milwaukee M18 Fuel Sawzall Brushless Cordless Reciprocating Saw - No Charger, No Battery, Bare Tool... The PalletSaw-W is THE band saw for every pallet company and all sorts of pallets. With this pallet shredder machine you either dismantle the pallet completely or replace its broken parts in an efficient way. The PalletSaw-W is equipped with large wheels covered with synthetic material for longer durability To remove the end slats, simply use a length of 3×2 timber and lay it roughly 3 or so inches away from the slat and then use this as a fulcrum to lever against to remove the end slatsCombine the pallet disassembly line with an automatic nail or pallet repair line or with a pallet sorting line. When combined with a sorting line, one employee sorts the pallets and the robot dismantles. Even complete pallet stripping is possible when working with a robot. Products for pallet dismantling Angle both prying/levering timbers outwards away from each other so that the ends underneath the slat you are removing come together at the centre of the slat. The underside of each prying timber will now sit against the top edge of the slat to the side of it. This will allow us to lever upwards, using these slats as a fulcrum This method is probably the one to go for when dealing with lower quality, cheaper pallets as levering and beating these often splits the slats rendering them useless. As the timber is of better quality it’s nicer to work with and also makes the job of breaking the pallet down a fair bit easier. For 50-75 pallet per hour you can remove broken parts or you can complete dismantle 20-40 pallets per hour
