Designed and manufactured in the UK to specifically fit the Sonos one, one SL and gen 1 play: 1 all cable ports and buttons remain easily accessible when in use. Weight: You will get different sizes of speakers available in the market. More giant speakers are a bit heavier than the smaller ones. Therefore, you should avoid pairing a more prominent speaker with a more undersized stand. The diagram shows a bass-management system. Each of the five main channels goes through a high-pass filter to remove the low-frequency element of the signal, before being passed on to the appropriate amplifier and speaker. Bass Management Personally, I love bass, the depth and realism it adds to my music so I will almost always recommend a subwoofer if the budget allows. The superior build quality, attractive design and gorgeous finish provide an immediate feeling of luxury. But it’s not all surface charm, and this discreetly compact subwoofer does an awful lot with its 10in driver, 10in passive radiator and 300W RMS of Class A/B power. As a result, the T/9x delivers a fast and transparent performance that combines with surprisingly high output levels and great low-end impact. It’s an impressive achievement, producing plenty of energy and dynamics while retaining REL’s trademark intimacy, clarity and speed.

First thing to consider is the cables, you’ll need to plug this into your amplifier or AV receiver via a subwoofer cable so consider where the amplifier is in your room and ideally keep the subwoofer in the “listening area”. When I was first getting interested in all things audio, home subwoofers were rather specialist devices that were only of interest to two groups of hi-fi enthusiasts: those who listened to large pipe organ recitals and those who enjoyed reggae! Things have moved on a great deal since those distant days, and today subwoofers are now considered — more for the 'domestic acceptance' factor than any potential sonic benefits — to be an almost standard part of modern hi-fi and studio monitoring systems. With a large driver producing low frequencies, the subwoofer creates a large amount of energy that can excite the supporting surface, interfere with other audio components and annoy your neighbors.Another useful benefit of a subwoofer is the additional power handling accorded to the system as a whole. The acoustic energy in music is highest at low frequencies and tails off with increasing frequency. So employing a dedicated box to handle much of the power-hungry bass takes that burden from the satellites, with useful benefits in overall power handling and clarity. One Or Two? We actually hear the effect of the environment and how it is affected by the room itself. There are a couple of things that can influence the sound that you hear: There are subwoofers that employ two drivers firing to the left and right simultaneously, which use force-cancelling to generate increased output from smaller cabinets. This type of subwoofer also works well at the front of the room, and can be used in corners. If you really want to craft your bass end, a subwoofer can be indispensable. Here's the low-down...

Subwoofers come in two flavours: passive and active. A passive sub requires external power from an amp or AV receiver, whereas an active sub has its amplification built in. All the subs in this guide are of the active variety, raising the question of how much power an active subwoofer requires. As mentioned in the introduction, the more air a driver can displace, the lower the frequencies it can generate. This means that when it comes to subwoofers, size does matter. The Sub (Gen 3) is fairly large, and although Sonos doesn’t mention the size of the drivers, they use a force-cancelling configuration to produce deeper bass. There are also dual acoustic ports for increased low-end extension, and a pair of Class D amplifiers (although once again the actual power rating isn’t given). However, Sonos does claim the Sub (Gen 3) goes down to 25Hz. Subwoofers are large, the cones are usually 8”, 10” or 12” and they’re big for a reason! The larger the speaker the better the frequency response. If there is a phase control on your subwoofer, as on the PMC TLE1 pictured here, you will find that small phase adjustments can often make surprisingly large differences to the smoothness of the crossover region, especially if the subwoofer and satellites are from different manufacturers. This Acoustic subwoofer platform will reduce unnecessary vibrations and reverberations and hold the accuracy to deliver excellent bass.
