Description

This is key for a wine brand like Amie. “We are a brand so we haven’t got that 200-year family story of owning a chateau in the South of France,” Sandbach says, meaning its more a question of “storytelling” about the brand and its aesthetic than about a long history.

What’s good? The Soda House Highball is the top offering for a reason. It’s a blend of pear, apple, and plum with whiskey and soda – and extremely delicious, if we do say so ourselves. This Scottish eatery has gone way past the point of mere Highland fling, and is having a full Scottish love affair. Their Belgravia branch, just behind Victoria station, is a warren of drinking dens, dining rooms, a courtyard and cigar terrace; each liberally scattered with tartan and Scottish paraphernalia. Unsurprisingly, there’s a strong whisky collection behind the bar, and there’s also live music every night, spanning jazz, soul and blues (no bagpipes involved). You’re also here for the terrace seating that makes an ideal location for a bit of al fresco drinking, especially when sipping on a nice european wine. Interior-wise, it’s a real wild card. One room is a tranquil Kyoto-inspired space, while another sees a huge stained glass mural of Bowie adorning the walls. It’s weird and we love it. Located on the River Roading in the east stretches of Barking, Boathouse is a relaxed watering hole where you can grab a chilled pint.

Getting here

We had the pleasure of getting to know amie’s co-founder, Abbie Roden , and getting to the heart of how she carved amie into the success it is today. Tell us about amie and how the business came to be.

The draw of this bar is definitely the dart boards, but even if you don’t fancy a game, the electric atmosphere and selection of drinks are reason enough to visit. That place is Trailer Happiness, which is inspired by Polynesia and offers up some seriously good vibes. If you’re looking for a fun spot for a great drink, you can’t go wrong here. The emphasis is – obviously – on gin – served up in huge, fishbowl glasses popular in the Basque region of Spain. You can find a couple of Flight Club locations all over London, but the Victoria offering is one of our favourites. Eccleston Yards is a secluded, zhuzhed-up courtyard just behind Victoria Station, home to a collection of independent businesses, a thriving weekend market, annnd this part bar, part studio from Amie Wines. Their ‘wine studio’ is a gorgeously designed space showcasing work by up-and-coming artists – so be warned, after sampling a couple of the house wines you might just take a piece home with you. amie wine studio Seoul is officially open! 〰️ We spent the last week in Seoul with our team for the opening of amie's new wine bar - amie wine studio Seoul. We started the opening week with an intimate lunch for press, a big opening party, as well as hosting our first-ever event (an art class with Seoul-based artist) in the space.

We all have our ‘go to’ wines but it’s also lovely to discover new tastes, some might not have the necessary time/knowledge to slog over choosing – let us do the job . We hate to come across like braggy-mc-braggfaces but if there’s one eternal truth, it’s that London knows how to do a good bar. Be sure that you know your roles. Who does what for the business? For us, I am definitely in charge of marketing: creative events, activations, and brand partnerships. Will handles all things operations: logistics, finance, business. Also be sure to make time for yourself, and for your friends (without your partner). Can you tell us a little bit about the production of your wines? Heads + Tails is a cute little neighbourhood bar in West Hampstead with a dreamy outdoor terrace for summer boozing.Amie is hosting its opening party this week in Seoul, and will trial a new rosé cremant in the South Korean market before launching it in the UK. Beavertown’s unashamedly cool vibe translates to their impressive taproom in Tottenham – complete with a massive outdoors space seating tables of six at two metre intervals – little wonder that it’s a frequent feature on any guide to the best breweries in London. Drinking our way around the best bars in London is something we’ve become rather good at – from Farringdon to Covent Garden, Shoreditch to Soho and London Bridge, we’ve written so many neighbourhood bar guides that it made sense to do the big one: the best bars in London. Fancy drinking somewhere a little bit different? Enter The Thin White Duke, a David Bowie-esque joint with nods to Berlin and Japan.
