The writing style is easy to read and gripping, and Weaver ensures that he keeps you turing the pages relentlessly.

But he doesn’t want her money, only her suffering–and he will kill Veda if Sue doesn’t follow his every command. Neuware - THE DEBUT THRILLER IN THE BESTSELLING DAVID RAKER MISSING PERSONS SERIES, PERFECT FOR FANS OF MO HAYDER, LINWOOD BARCLAY AND MICHAEL CONNELLYOne year ago, Alex Towne's body was found.David Raker is a most complex and engaging investigator, each case leaving its mark on his soul, and ours' Sunday Times bestselling author Liz Nugent 480 pp. Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Dead Tracks by Tim Weaver, read by Joe Coen, Hannah Arterton with Tim Weaver. Maybe I shouldn't have stuck with the same genre so soon after, but I didn't enjoy 'Chasing the Dead' half as much. If I had been prepared for the change, I wouldn't have minded it so much, but as it was I was trying to solve the mystery when it seemed like this supernatural deus ex machina changed all the rules. A year after the death of her son Alex, Mary Towne is convinced she's seen him alive - and wants missing persons investigator David Raker to find him.

Not the first book I have read in this series but the standard of this one is right up there with the others. You see the events that lead him to do what he does, you see the way he reacts to death and loss – his own and others’ – and you see him grow into a different person than he once was. But when Mary Towne employs him to find her son Alex, he doesn't realise what torments he is letting himself in for.Read all Born, left behind in a hospital by her biological mother a young woman who feels an affinity with the abandoned dead, finds more than she bargained for. Raker pushes through every obstacle, driven by his own desire for closure that becomes intertwined with the closure of the case he’s taken on. But despite the hundreds of people who went missing every day of every year, I'm not sure that I ever expected to make a living out of trying to find them.

I’d always liked the investigative parts of journalism, the dirty work, the digging, more than I had liked the writing. With all the death, re-animation of corpses, and local history lessons; Sue has to understand these clues by the end of her drive, so she can save herself and her daughter. The beginning few chapters were very good, but overall it's predictable, and omg why use a sentence, when you can drag it out for a whole chapter. It kept me looking for excuses and breaks to be able to pick it up whenever I could and ends extremely satisfactorily, even while leaving you wanting to follow Raker on his next case. It starts off just like a typical mystery-suspense novel, but soon turns into a relentless, unputdownable supernatural thriller. There’s an interesting premise/hook here that careens off the rails about a third of the way through, the story-line never finding its way back to even mindless entertainment.

Still raw and grieving from the loss of his wife, David reluctantly agrees to look for Alex and finds himself caught up in a violent and deathly chase for survival. The strange man on the other end of the phone line gave her specific and told her that if she got the police involved he would know, and he would kill Susan’s little bundle of joy right then and there.I pushed the doubt down with the sadness and anger and found the girl three days later in a bedsit in Walthamstow.
