Description

One of the high points of this book was the two very dynamic main characters. The heroine Cat Crawfield is a half-vampire, half-human badass who’s out to bury vampires in her vicinity as a way to atone for her mother’s suffering and her own salvation. On one of these excursions she runs across Bones, an infamous, full-fledged vampire bounty hunter who’s after some of the same vamps she’s looking for. Though it started off rough, pretty soon the two of them form an unlikely team taking down vamps to gather intel. If you already love Bones, this book is just going to make you swoon all over again. It effectively retells book one purely from his perspective, and I loved seeing what he's thinking and feeling through all the major book one milestones - like, their first meeting, first night together, first fight. I am SO glad that Frost uses third person for her male POV. She's one of the ever-shrinking number of romance authors who recognise that in general, female writers just don't capture male POV well at all. It does make the prose a tiny bit stilted in comparison to her normal smoothness, but I think that's a worthy trade-off.

I'm not even going to bother giving you a synopsis of this book that almost everyone has already read. I will just say that if you are like me and love the Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance genre, and you somehow missed this one, you should give it a go.

I think that I never liked a female character more.I had so much fun when I was reading her inner monologues.

I expected Bones to be an aggravating Alpha male. Oh please don't even think about laughing okay? Most of my very good friends here go in heavy panting mode whenever he is mentioned (you know who you are people) so I logically assumed Bones was a total (hence irresistible) asshole. What I failed to take into consideration is that my dear friends are lovely girls who like lovely guys. Me? The bastards get me in heavy panting mode every time. The second stanza takes on a different approach, reminding the reader that despite the earlier commands, death is both inevitable and natural. The reason it’s one of my faves is the effortless banter between Cat and Bones. There’s so much animosity, especially from her end that it’s a pleasure to slowly experience the evolution from pure hatred to head over heels love. Now, I do think the "I love yous" came a little early for my liking...it just felt a little fast...but, that's okay, because I loved the pacing of the story in general. I flew through this thing and just had a great time doing it. Now for the foremost reason why I loved this book...Bones, Bones, Bones, Bones, Bones...wistful sigh and dreamy shudder. Bones gives Edward a major run for the money for the top yummy vampire award! He just flat-out takes the stake...cake! Need some examples?

Visiting the grave of a loved one is an opportunity to pay homage to their memory. We should remember this life and show that it has meaning to all of us. Others consider the entire process to be spiritual. You feel comforted and peaceful when you are on hallowed ground, where you can find the same sense of relaxation and peace that you do on the outside. Part of my problem was that I wanted it to keep going with that much intensity. But halfway through the book, they are already getting it on. Not that it wasn't good, but I would have liked a little more tease. I wanted the to be tortured with it. But I'm weird like that. I really regret him not having more of an involvement. I thought for certain he would've gotten caught up in the action. It just felt like this book's character development was limited to Cat, her love interest, and whatever bad guys she came across. Female lead needs to learn to trust rakish male lead while male lead needs to fall in LOVE with femaleImagery: occurs when the poet uses especially effective description. For example, these lines from the third stanza: “ Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright / Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay.” And he’s surprisingly sweet about it. He’s charming and smooth, but not in an alpha-man kind of way. He respects her choices and follows her wishes. I don’t generally reread books because of the number of new books I have yet to read. But I can see rereading, or listening to this on a regular basis. Even though there are tragic and sorrowful events in this first book, the magnitude of his love is so big, it makes it an epic love story. While still killing the bad guy vampires. At location 1152 on my Kindle Fire (first generation): "...which means that only Mallory can can hurt him." Oops. The basic story is one that I was already familiar with. Cat is half-vampire and has made it her mission to kill as many vampires as she can. In her quest to rid the world of vampires, she runs into Bones and realizes that she has met her match. They eventually team up and things only get more exciting from there. In Halfway to the Grave, we see the same basic story from Cat’s point of view but it turns out that Bones has a lot to add.
