Equipped with the Direct Impulse Motor, H-FREE 300 delivers effective performance, picking up fine dust and larger debris particles. Steering is a little “vague” since the weight of the head tends to make the cleaner want to move forward rather than turn. The latter is handy to keep your vacuum cleaner topped up if you don’t have power in your storage cupboard. You simply squeeze the trigger to turn the vacuum on and squeeze it again to power it off, while a “power control” touch-sensitive button on the handle can be gently tapped to raise or lower the suction level.

On full power carpet mode with the brush bar running, the Hoover turned in a great result at sucking up pet hairs from carpets.The main floor brush makes light work of crumbs and we were surprised at how well it picked up larger pieces of dirt too, especially when on full power. Heading out over different carpets and rugs around the home, the Hoover delivered a reasonably good clean, pulling up pet hair and titbits easily. Fully assembled, the C300 tipped our scales at around 4kg, which is little portlier than the claimed 3. The better your problem and question is described, the easier it is for other Hoover owners to provide you with a good answer. So, we were keen to see how the Hoover H-Free 300 would fare against our seriously furry feline as well as day-today grime. Hoover claims that the C300+ holds enough power to tackle an average-sized three-bedroom house more than once and, while we didn’t try this out ourselves, we can certainly believe it.It also activates lights on the front of the main brush head to give you a better view of what your cleaning – a neat feature that we wish you could activate separately from the turbo mode. It cleaned relatively well but we did have to go over a couple of areas at least twice before it picked up hairs and crumbs fully. Granted, we haven't had it for long enough to tell you how that battery pack fares over time, but aside from that the Hoover H-Free 300 is an excellent stick vacuum that’s perfect for pulling out when you just need a quick refresh and dust down, rather than a full-on spring cleaning session.

Running the H-Free 300 over on Medium power, a single sweep forward and backwards through the mess was sufficient to pick up most of the dirt, but up close there were traces remaining. We got about a half hour from the unit before performance started to drop away using the main motorised floorhead attachment.

The Hoover H-Free 300 is a very solid stick model to consider if you really can’t be bothered to pull out the ‘proper’ machine from under the stairs, or wherever it is you keep yours.

On a Hansel and Gretel mission back to the starting point, we gave up and picked up the remainders with a dustpan and brush.
