Perciò, se splatter è, di certo non è uno splatter a vuoto, fine a se stesso, ma qualcosa che, a mio avviso, seppur nella sua ripugnanza, vuole lanciare un messaggio. Wouldn’t this be a fun-nomenal New Years’ Eve activity for the kids while you’re slugging down a bunch of champagne?

During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Brite at first opted to stay at home, but he eventually abandoned New Orleans and his cats and relocated 80 miles away to his mother's home in Mississippi. He used his blog to update his fans regarding the situation, including the unknown status of his house and many of his pets, and in October 2005 became one of the first 70,000 New Orleanians to begin repopulating the city. This is a novel that, despite having two sadistic killers as its main characters, you want to learn more about them. Our main initial focus is Andrew and then Jay. Throughout the novel, we want to know WHY these men are like this, and why they feel that love can only be achieved when the person is dead. We fear for Tran who, though unbeknownst to his own actions, is involved with Jay, and we learn how much Tran's ex-lover cares about him. There is sad, beautiful love in this story, there is also sadistic and evil love.Adventure" was written in precisely this fashion by a selection of some of the most popular children's and youth authors of today.

I'll start with saying that I know Marija personally, so take this review in this context. Having said that, I didn't review her first book because it really wasn't my type of literature and I couldn't finish it. This one isn't either, but it's closer and much easier to read.

While living in Paris (1951-1958) he began his career as a serious writer, composing such works as the collection of short stories, Here Be Dragons (1955) and his first novel, Jamie Is My Heart's Desire (1956). During this time, Chester also met and began a relationship with an Israeli pianist, Arthur, with whom he lived in Paris and, for a short time, in New York City. While in Paris, Chester befriended other literary figures, such as Susan Sontag, James Baldwin, and Princess Marguerite Caetani. Absolutely terrifying. I had an actual night terror/ sleep paralysis from this book. I swore it was from having the book on my bed while I slept. I woke up and threw it off my bed. this book centers around two serial killers (who btw are based on real serial killers), who meet while on the hunt and recognise the monster in the one another. they fall for each other in their own psychopathic way. murder, torture, necrophilia, and cannibalism ensues.

At this point I should warn any potential readers that there are several topics in the book that may cause difficulties for some readers, from necrophilia to sexual assault and abuse of power imbalances. It's going to upset some people, but displaying dark truths should do that.

Listen, mister, I admit there's a resemblance to what Tommy used to look like. But my Tommy has a sweet crippled face now and a heart of gold. And I love him. I will as long as I live. He bought me that car there- a lot of shit you handsome guys ever buy anybody. Haunting.’ – Australian Women’s Weekly Romance is dead…He pulled up his stool and looked me over carefully, lightly touching my skin here and there. ‘Because, my sweet girl, you are so very beautiful and that beauty deserves to be recorded for the world to see.’ After learning that he is HIV-positive, writer Lucas Ransom reacts by rejecting all his former friends and breaking up with his teenage lover Tran. Increasingly embittered by his illness, Lucas vents his frustration through his alternate persona " Lush Rimbaud", host of a pirate radio program (in a pirate station with the callsign "WHIV") where Lucas rails at society's denial of gay men and the AIDS epidemic (coincidently, the callsign would be used in real life for a licensed station in New Orleans that chose the call letters specifically to remove stigma about HIV/AIDS but with no other relation to Brite's novel [2]). Soon even this outlet isn't enough, and Lucas, sensing that death is approaching, becomes fixated on reconciling with Tran. On the surface, this sounded like this might be a challenging but interesting book (a la Barnes' "Nightwood"). But I think that nobody liked this book and a couple of readers hated it a lot.

The novel unfolds in alternating chapters from the points of view of the four main characters. Andrew Compton, a convicted serial killer (based on serial killer Dennis Nilsen), escapes his UK prison cell in a self-induced cataleptic trance. Mistaken for dead by the authorities, he makes his way to New Orleans' French Quarter to start a new life. Seeking new victims, he instead meets Jay Byrne (based on Jeffrey Dahmer), a wealthy recluse who is also a serial killer, as well as a cannibal. The two at first intend to victimize one another, but upon realizing their similar proclivities, instead begin a torrid affair based on sex and murder. She bowed automatically before remembering there would be no applause in these villain-infested wood--only certain death" (p 41). Another one that made me laugh. The irony. Another one ... "UNHAND THAT ARM!" (p79) And "I'm so happy for you. The happiest days are always the days when missing legs are found. Aren't they, Joe? Aren't they the happiest days?" (p127). Set in the time when HIV and AIDS were just becoming known terms, two men were destined to meet in New Orleans. Andrew, a serial killer recently escaped from prison in a way Edmond Dantes would have admired; the other a wealthy, long time New Orleans resident named Jay whose tastes mirror Andrew's. They prowl the streets of New Orleans together, searching for new prey. Will they find it? Will they ever be caught? You'll have to read this to find out!Lina Dahlstrom is beautiful but poor and when tests show that she has tuberculosis it seems that all hope is lost. Her husband and family cannot afford the fees to get Lina the healthcare that she needs. Then along comes Dr Dance who claims he can cure Lina and that he will do it for free. Linas sister Greta is all for it at first but then becomes wary of Dr Dance. Linas husband Petter outright refuses and states that the free hospital will help his wife. As Lina becomes more unwell Petter disappears. Lina agrees to the treatment that Dr Dance is offering but becomes more unwell and when news comes regarding Petters disappearance Lina finally succumbs to the illness. Dr Dance does not take this well and he becomes more obsessed than ever….. I had absolutely no idea what to expect when I borrowed this book from the library. None whatsoever. I just thought the cover design was cool and decided to give it a go. But while this book is loaded with gore and extreme sexual situations with vivid descriptions, that is not the focus of the book. This book heavily explore what it means to be alive and living. HIV/AIDS is always on the forefront in the book as most of the book is connected to blood and sex. Fear, acceptance, life, living, love, death, everything. There's a lot to be said about physical pain vs a disease that is slowly killing you before it turns full-blown lethal, too. There's a WHOLE lot truly happening in this novel. SO MUCH.
