Lauren: Comfortable for my child, padded seat. Easy to clean. Very logical design to fold away/put up again. Easy to adjust the position. Easy to adapt to the baby recliner/add on the baby toy bar. Love the inclusivity of all baby ages, to get them to the table for family mealtimes. Acceptable price for such a good piece of equipment with such a good age range. Dannibelle: The Chicco Polly Magic Relax really makes my job as a mum easier because my infant can eat, relax, watch TV or look at books all sitting comfortably and securely within this highchair. I can get on with house duties or simply relax without interruptions. A highchair is very important within our household and we found this one to be really useful. Would you choose this product to win? Type: Aluminium high chair which clips onto tables| Materials: Aluminium; rubber; fabric | Suitable from: 6 months+ | Harness: Yes | Wheels?: No What we love Type: Freestanding chair which converts from baby seat to a highchair | Materials: Faux-leather; fabric; BPA-free plastic | Suitable from: Birth | Harness: Yes | Wheels?: Yes What we love Type: Plastic booster seat with tray that attaches to adult chair with straps | Materials: BPA-free plastics; canvas straps | Suitable from: 6 months+ | Harness: Yes | Wheels?: No What we love

Tejal: The product is fantastic and very versatile. I love that it can be used from birth up to 15kg and it is very easy to use and change once it's set up. My only hesitation in recommending this product as the winner is the price. It is expensive and although it can be used from birth, there are cheaper products on the market which would be more attractive for parents on a budget. Other than the price, I have thoroughly enjoyed using the product. Type: Plastic freestanding highchair with two size trays for growing child | Materials: Metal; plastic; foam seat insert | Suitable from: Birth | Harness: Yes | Wheels?: No What we love Michaela: The buttons which are used to move the armrests and to move the seat up and down are quite stiff. To make them more fluid would help when trying to adjust the highchair. The toy bar is also quite difficult to put on and to take off. When taking the toy bar off you have to pull it which sometimes feels like it might break. The robustness of the safety harness (is it three-point or five? Does it seem secure when attached?) Then, depending on the size and independence of your child, you may want to switch to a booster seat on an adult chair. Many multifunctional and transitional highchairs adjust in height, so you can bring the chair right up to the table. How much does a highchair cost?

8. Best highchair for small spaces: Chicco Polly Magic Relax

Transparency is really important to us and that's why we're always upfront about how we tested the products we recommend. We won't always recommend the cheapest products, or the ones with the most extra features. We write about products that we feel offer the best value to most parents – the one's we'd recommend to our own friends and family. For this category, Rachel partnered with Katrĩna, who has a nine-month-old baby and a 33-month-old toddler to juggle at mealtimes, so was able to put all our products through their paces over the course of three months. A beautiful, intelligently designed chair with lots of thoughtful details, the Oribel Cocoon missed out on our transitional award as it’s still only suitable up to age three. But it’s a stylish and flexible model, available in four attractive colours, that will complement your kitchen and make mealtimes a breeze.

I had a mimzy highchair and it was fab, but it was recommended to me as little one has hip dysplasia and its really wide. It could be a pain to clean but all the padding comes off and goes in the washing machine which I used to do once a week (normally Sunday after dinner and then it would be dry by Monday dinner time after nursery)."(Recommended by Mumsnetter ItsSnowJokes) Our verdict We spend hours researching, speaking to parents, analysing data and listening to experts before we test out the products on our shortlist. But in addition to these expected functions, the seat can also be switched into booster mode so that it can be used as a portable seat for dinners out or trips to see the family. This means that you could take it in the car if you were travelling somewhere without a highchair and use it on the move. It also transforms rather cleverly into a toddler seat and play table when they’ve totally outgrown it.

How real life comparative testing makes Mumsnet Reviews unique

Highchairs have come a long way in the last couple of decades as companies have begun to apply intelligent design to baby equipment. There are several broad types on the market, so consider which functions are important to you before making your choice. 1. Budget highchairs It seems like only yesterday you were shopping around for the best breast pump or baby bottles for feeding your little one, now they're ready to graduate to sitting at the table and eating solid foods. But there's more to weaning than just making sure there's an Ella's pouch in your changing bag at all times, and thankfully Mumsnetters are on hand to help you navigate this messy time. Silver Cross’s Buffet highchair is one of its latest models that delivers more or less exactly what you’d expect from such a trusted baby brand. Well designed and excellent quality, it accommodates baby from new-born to toddler and folds away neatly. Once folded out completely, its legs do cover quite a large surface, so you’ll need a fair amount of space to accommodate it. For babies from 6 months to 12 months, the Polly Magic becomes a high chair to help during weaning, made easy by the removable cover tray, and for toddlers of 1 year and over it becomes a normal chair so they can sit at the table with family, in safety and comfort in their own special chair.
