This has certainly been the case with ‘friends stranded in a wilderness whilst on an off grid holiday that goes wrong’ over the past couple of years. Yet with Magary, getting lost means being chased by dog-faced murderers, crashing into an iceberg, almost getting eaten by a giant, and being forced to build a castle for the undead. En-route, I slept in rustic DNT cabins perched in some of the most remote spots I can imagine, hugely grateful for the warmth of a woodstove, and a bowl of steaming noodles enjoyed after a long day of walking.

We get inside the head of each character, so we learn that Cat has actually been cheating on her husband Paul with her sister’s husband, Tristan. Racine did every single one of the friend's POVs and I thought she did a good job overall, and she was a great choice for the audio.Battling problems in her marriage plus burn out at work, Liz decides it’s time to take the trip she’s been dreaming of ever since she was a child: hiking the Norwegian trails. Magary's book is a love letter to fans of gaming, fantasy and adventure, but above all, to open minded readers who can relax and hang on for the ride. The Hike was just incredible, a novel that features four women I sympathized and connected with, understanding the lifelong bonds we hold onto and the lifelong resentments we often keep close to our chests.

Our family hikes a lot too and I think it would bother me too much to read about people who are hiking in an ill-equipped manner. I really enjoyed how The Hike blended a murder mystery that kept you guessing right until the end – the implication that there are, perhaps, even some supernatural elements at play added further to the tense atmosphere – with the natural development of each of the characters. The first quarter is slow moving as we get to know our group of friends who are hiking together, but if you can be patient, once that backstory is laid (and this part is arguably important) the real action begins and doesn’t let up until the very last page. The mistakes are wide ranging, from crass stupidity to thoughtlessness and so things that could go wrong, certainly do. I actually started out reading The Hike before I switched to the audio, and I would recommend it either way!

But with the weather coming in and the mountain peak looming, will this foursome make it back alive? P. Putnam Sons" and Net galley for the opportunity to read this terrific book and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

They lace up their hiking boots for the adventure of a lifetime in the Norwegian wilderness: a place of towering mountains, glass-like lakes, log cabins and forests stolen from a fairytale. Speechify lets you listen to any text, including all books in the world with the best voices out there! She was right to include the teaser at the beginning of the book that implies only two of the four will survive, because at the very least, it piques our curiosity, and for the majority of the book, we don’t know which characters it will be. The Hike is my second book by Lucy Clarke and it captures the elements I loved about the first one I read, The Castaways. All in all, a solid popcorn thriller that was different than the usual "is my husband secretly a killer?Change country: -Select- Albania Algeria American Samoa Andorra Angola Anguilla Antigua and Barbuda Argentina Armenia Aruba Azerbaijan Republic Bahamas Bahrain Bangladesh Barbados Belarus Belgium Belize Benin Bermuda Bhutan Bolivia Bosnia and Herzegovina Botswana Brazil British Virgin Islands Brunei Darussalam Bulgaria Burkina Faso Burundi Cambodia Cameroon Canada Cape Verde Islands Cayman Islands Central African Republic Chad Chile China Colombia Comoros Cook Islands Costa Rica Cyprus Czech Republic Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) Democratic Republic of the Congo Denmark Djibouti Dominica Dominican Republic Ecuador Egypt El Salvador Equatorial Guinea Eritrea Estonia Ethiopia Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) Fiji Finland France French Guiana French Polynesia Gabon Republic Gambia Georgia Ghana Gibraltar Greece Greenland Grenada Guadeloupe Guam Guatemala Guernsey Guinea Guinea-Bissau Guyana Haiti Honduras Hong Kong Hungary Iceland India Indonesia Iraq Ireland Israel Italy Jamaica Japan Jersey Jordan Kazakhstan Kenya Kiribati Kuwait Kyrgyzstan Laos Latvia Lebanon Lesotho Liberia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Macau Macedonia Madagascar Malawi Malaysia Maldives Mali Malta Marshall Islands Martinique Mauritania Mauritius Mayotte Mexico Micronesia Moldova Monaco Mongolia Montenegro Montserrat Morocco Mozambique Namibia Nepal Netherlands Netherlands Antilles New Caledonia New Zealand Nicaragua Niger Nigeria Niue Norway Oman Pakistan Palau Panama Papua New Guinea Paraguay Peru Philippines Poland Portugal Puerto Rico Qatar Republic of Croatia Republic of the Congo Reunion Romania Rwanda Saint Helena Saint Kitts-Nevis Saint Lucia Saint Pierre and Miquelon Saint Vincent and the Grenadines San Marino Saudi Arabia Senegal Serbia Seychelles Sierra Leone Singapore Slovakia Slovenia Solomon Islands South Africa South Korea Spain Sri Lanka Suriname Swaziland Sweden Taiwan Tajikistan Tanzania Thailand Togo Tonga Trinidad and Tobago Tunisia Turkey Turkmenistan Turks and Caicos Islands Tuvalu Uganda United Arab Emirates United Kingdom Uruguay Uzbekistan Vanuatu Vatican City State Venezuela Vietnam Virgin Islands (U. That wasn't so much the issue, but the name "Leif" being pronounced "life" instead of "lay-f" annoyed the hell out of me. All that said, I enjoyed this book overall and will definitely check out this author’s previous work. They are doing a mountain hike which involves camping in the rural wilds – something none of the women have any experience in.

I don’t usually go for books like this, so in case you’re wondering why I decided to give The Hike a try despite the publisher description clearly indicating that this will be a totally insane and off-the-wall experience, it was because of two words that jumped out at me: video games. This is a really exciting and twisty thriller from the start to the end which will leaving you wanting to hike in Norway too. There are some scenarios where time seems to stand still which are really good as you are anticipating the next bad thing. In an interview, the author shared how she had been on a hike in Norway, when she started to think about writing this novel.Ha, I primarily know the author from his work on Gawker and Deadspin…which is obviously miles away from his spec fiction! As story of friendship, secrets, adventure, thrill seeking and underhanded deeds, The Hike is an adrenaline filled tale that I absorbed from the minute I opened this book to the last word. Liz decided she was ready to do something different, so when she told her friends about a four-day adventure of wild hiking and camping in Norway they wondered if she was serious. Lucy’s novels have sold over a million copies in the UK alone and are published in over twenty territories worldwide. The Hike transports you to the Norwegian wilderness where a group of female friends are pushed to their absolute limits and beyond.
