I remember buddy reading Babel with you and the two of us absolutely fuming about certain things in the book! It is often dished out under the guise of benevolence, but it always involves domineering despotism. The grey kitten, who is never given a name, tells us that he’s feeling angry, so angry in fact that he wants to do all sorts of things like jump up and down, roll on the ground, make a din, put his toy in the bin. A fictional story is backed up by suggestions for activities and ideas to talk about, while a wordless storyboard encourages children to tell another story.

However ingeniously the emotional isolationist plots his course, emotional investment in other people and their investment in him will be inevitable. It didn't matter that the words were barely audible; it didn't matter that the dragon had no language to understand them. This will be particularly so with anger and may result in an avoidance of anger and subsequent crippling in this very important emotional area.

Since being universally loved is seen as the only way to be safe in this world, anger -- especially anger that causes retaliation by the other fellow -- is of course felt as a terrible threat. He does so usually in response to some increase in bodily tension or discomfort or frustration -- the need for food or relief from the stick of a diaper pin, for example.

At home, Harry's sister, Susie, has a tantrum because she wants to eat a biscuit but her mum says no because it's nearly teatime. It’s a sinister family heirloom; passed down through the bloodline for hundreds of years, with one woman in every generation destined to die young. To tame her unnerving yet invaluable mental strength, she is paired up with Li Shimin, the strongest and most controversial male pilot in Huaxia. The "emotional isolationist" honestly believes that if he doesn't get involved with other people, he won't get hurt.

Since they predicate their lives and well-being on total control of themselves, others, and the total environment, potential loss of control is invariably felt as a great threat. Their sole purpose seemed to be to keep her in her place: a life with narrow walls and standards of purity that pressed her thin, erased her to nothing but her blood and her good bones and the worth of a pleasing face. Even more sadly, blocking off anger ultimately destroys the very thing the "nice guy" wants -- namely love.A brilliant picture book about anger with clever rhymes, a repeated refrain and rib-ticklingly funny illustrations which are instantly appealing. I’m already a fan of Starling’s work and he really brings this kitten’s tantrum to life with that face expression and what is happening on each page.

Laura Dockrill’s text is brilliantly quirky and friendly, and little ones will definitely identify with Angry Cookie. With a love of books, videogames, animals, art and of course Strawberries there's always something on my mind I just love to discuss. When health is preponderant, we are fortunate indeed -- as we are when the emotional climate in which we were brought up, in which we live, and which we provide for our children promotes health.
