In the story The Pout Pout Fish, the main character is described as quite glum until another fish surprises him with a kiss. Everywhere he goes, he finds that he doesn't have the requisite knowledge to succeed, something which only strengthens his naturally gloomy outlook, leading to his conclusion that he doesn't belong in school.

It includes tons of helpful information for teachers like the book summary, reading levels, genre, and reading skills the book lends itself to teaching. Encourage the kids to share what makes them feel happy or smile when they are sad with drawings or words. Hopefully, through this book, we can produce a productive conversation about purpose and meaningfulness.The only problem I find with the book is that, in the fish's correct class, everyone understands the lessons and can complete the work. Although the original Pout-Pout Fish book is still my favorite, this off to school adventure has a positive message for all new students (fishy and otherwise).
