AIRLOC is QED's specialised loudspeaker termination method and offers the very best termination with QED speaker cables. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance. Using our in house HDMI testing facility, QED have designed premium HDMI cables to suit any budget. From our flexible and slimline profile to our exceptional Reference HDMI with its BandPass filter technology to reduce Jitter to Ultra low levels OPTICAL The reason why cable manufacturers make a big deal about gold plating is that copper and silver oxidize in the air. The cables would not last very long if they were not constantly cleaned. A layer of gold or zinc prevents oxidation, thereby greatly extending the lifetime of the cable. However, paying extra for the gold is usually not worth it.

QED research has shown that low capacitance cables are generally preferred in listening tests over high capacitance counterparts and this is usually because low-loss dielectrics have been utilised. The use of LDPE and careful control of conductor spacing results in a cable with a very low capacitance per meter and a dissipation factor (loss tangent) of 0.0001 at 10 kHz. But it does offer us more of a musical whole. It is a lot to do with dynamic expression, those leading notes that turn accurate timing into a traceable rhythm, and which help portray a more lyrical, human bent to the music. It’s also a little to do with organisation, and how each instrument is tethered to and interacts with one another –no doubt also aided by a little less space to play in. I posted a reply earlier, with a link to all the information necessary to disprove this cable nonsense, but you either can't understand it or chose to ignore it, but if you do understand it, please feel free to offer a rebuttal, explaining why and where the information is incorrect.Setting aside the physics of it all, a higher impedance limits the total power passing through speakers and headphones, and this resistance increases with a higher frequency. So a higher frequency means additional data loss. This is the reason why most cables do their best to minimize impedance. What factors do not affect cable quality? At Peter Tyson we pride ourselves on prompt, efficient delivery. Please note that the daily cut off time for all next day delivery services is 3pm. Elsewhere XT40i’s huge 4.0mm² cross sectional area lowers loop resistance, while its 99.999% oxygen-free copper construction offers improved conductivity over standard copper. These characteristics reduce listener fatigue and boost musicality, making longer listening sessions more comfortable and enjoyable.

QED’s extensive research has uncovered the importance of cable dielectric (insulation) in optimising the sonic performance of a cable. The XT40i has improved on an already successful cable by designing a groundbreaking Air Gap™ dielectric construction. This technology reduces the cable’s dissipation factor and capacitance by half, resulting in vastly improved musical timing, a wider soundstage and improved bass control over its predecessor. All you need are cables that have low capacitance, resistance, and inductance and the cheapest of calves have all of these qualities.

Unique proprietary technology and trademarked geometries plus our award winning heritage all combine to create audible sonic improvements when compared to other loudspeaker cables.

Hifiman2007 said:As I said I do think analogue cables can sound different. However sometimes different is not better. Monster cables for instance have gone virtually bust because it was made clear that they sold overpriced cables that made no difference ....hifi magazines claimed they did and regularly reviewed as such. Obviously sold advertising space. So I think what hifi and other reviewers have a duty to make it clear they prefer the sound of the cable and not blindly say "it is better" I just wish they would take blind tests without knowing price ,brand, of item that would be more realistic and accurate. Anyone would be influenced by knowing price or brand first.

In loudspeaker cables high pitched sounds are forced to travel towards the outside of the conductor and so are able to use less and less of the available cross-sectional area as the pitch increases. This is called the “Skin Effect”. It means that for high frequencies the resistance of the cable appears to be much higher than it does for lower pitched sounds. Eddy currents in one conductor can affect the current flowing in an adjacent conductor so that currents flowing in the same direction move away from each other. This “Proximity Effect” also increases resistance as frequency increases. These phenomena have a detrimental effect on the fidelity of the sound you hear. The XT25 variation of QED X-Tube™ Technology solves these problems by creating a hollow tubular conductor geometry out of individual conductor bunches through which each frequency can pass with equal ease when compared to traditional solid or stranded conductors. Unique proprietary technology and trademarked geometries plus our award-winning heritage all combine to create audible sonic improvements when compared to other loudspeaker cables. Wires using this tech have a long hollow tube running through the center of the main cable. This prevents the copper wires from coming too close together, thereby improving the quality even further. QED claims the XT25 to have low DC resistance and the entirety of the low-loss dielectric copper is oxygen-free, which further aids in their crusade to create the perfect cable in the entire industry. Cable inductance is a prime cause of high-frequency attenuation and phase shift in loudspeaker cables. High inductance causes cable impedance to rise with frequency, reducing output in the very upper frequency range, sometimes preceded by response peaking. X-Tube™ Technology The graph below shows how the dc resistance of XT25 remains effectively unchanged across the entire audible frequency band when compared to a conventional cable of the same cross-sectional area. Combined with the sonic advantages of a low loss dielectric the improvements in current distribution place the new cable in a class well above cables with a less sophisticated geometry.

A prime cause of high-frequency attenuation, high inductance leads to a rise in impedance with frequency, reducing output in the upper frequency range. Low-Loss Dielectric In 1973 Bob Abraham and Ian Vine founded QED Audio Products and changed the way people think about hi-fi cables. By the time QED 79 strand speaker cable was launched in 1978, it wasn’t looked upon as ‘just another speaker cable’ but was instead regarded as a serious hi-fi component, making a fundamental change in the way people thought about cables. This cable is custom-made according to customers specific requirements as selected by the various dropdown options above and is professionally terminated by Futureshop's expert engineers using QED's superb 24 Carat gold plated AIRLOC termination plugs. The new stereo interconnects' Solid Complementary Conductor technology reduces capacitance by a quarter compared to the original model, resulting in an enlargement of the stereo soundstage.

This new bi-wire version delivers enhanced rhythmic accuracy and musicality with the X-Quad geometry lowering inductance to reveal more detail. QED’s proprietary X-Tube X-Tube™ technology, enables each frequency to pass with equal ease for a more balanced sound, while improving timing and stereo imaging. Even my wife, who usually looks upon my hifi interest with a gaze that ranges from rolled eyes "there there, dear" amused bafflement to downright annoyance has agreed that there is an effect.
