Description

The Makita DHP458 18v replaces model BHP458 to work with the high capacity Makita 18v LXT battery range. If you would like to change your settings or withdraw consent at any time, the link to do so is in our privacy policy accessible from our home page. The Makita DHP458Z themselves will often be sold ‘naked’ or 'body only', which means that the battery and charger are not included. This will help drilling performance, but you will really see the benefits of more torque when using as a screwdriver, more torque will help you better tighten screws, and loosen tighter screws. The length of time the battery will last before needing to be recharged will very much depend on the capacity of the battery and the load of the work you are doing.

I currently have a Impact diver (dtd152) and a Rotary Hammer Drill (DHR202), so I don't want to switch to another brand as I already have a Makita battery and charger. The safety clutch works well which prevents the drill spinning out of your hand if the drill snags when using cutters such as a hole saw. Not full time every day which in my view is where the brushless 481 motor is probably the better option. If having the best possible spec from the two is important, then the Makita DHP484 is the one to go for. This drill is slightly larger than many other cordless drills, but it is a solid and powerful drill and as such can be a bit heavy or a bit powerful for some beginners, but for anyone else this is a great addition to the toolbox. The DHP484 has a brushless motor, brushless motors are designed to deliver power more efficiently, this helping the battery to last longer.

The DHP458Z used to be the flagship drill in the range until the introduction of the Makita DHP481Z brushless drill, which means that there are some great deals to be had. I watched a video where they compared the latest brushless drills from all makes ,and sadly the makita wasn't really on top. torque settings plus drill mode, twin LED job light to illuminate the work area and enhanced dust and drip-proof performance for use in outdoor applications or harsh environments.David is a renewables and ventilation installer, with over 35 years experience, and is a long-standing contributor to Homebuilding and Renovating magazine. Perhaps one last question from me - I have the option of higher torque brushed motor versus lower torque brushless motor on the Makita - I have zero experience with the BL motors. This is a well-rounded tool that will suit the needs of carpenters, kitchen fitters and DIY enthusiasts. This combi drill comes with two 5Ah batteries and a fast charger all in a Makpac Type 2 Carry Case with Inlay. Both are excellent combi drills, but you may be wondering what is the difference between Makita DHP484 and DHP485?
