Wat dat betreft, deed dit boek me een beetje denken aan een paar van de mysteries van De Vijf van de grote Enid Blyton. She now collaborates as a freelance designer with publishers and advertising agencies all over the world, including designing and illustrating The House With Chicken Legs (Usborne) and the Travels of Ermine series (Usborne). Harrison Beck undertakes another locomotive mystery in the fourth instalment of Leonard and Sedgman’s thrilling Adventures on Trains series, as a cursed family of railway tycoons high in the German mountains makes for a sinister supernatural mystery. Nat makes a point very early on about how, as they're going undercover, Hal can't draw the way he usually does with all his supplies - in case it gives him away.

The attention to detail over this is brilliant, because there is no difference in line strength in the drawings - it is done with cross-hatchings rather than the style of the earlier books which mimics different pencil strengths. De familie Kratzenstein is een heel uitgebreide familie en ik ben Elisa Paganelli dan ook heel dankbaar dat ze de moeite heeft genomen om in naam van Alex een stamboom te tekenen, want ik kon hem gebruiken. This time, Hal and Uncle Nat find themselves investigating an ancient family curse, a missing will, and a witch who is said to prowl the railway line at Dead Man's Pass. There's lots to unravel within the book that will entertain 9 years to 11 year old children, which it is pitched at perfectly for.

Hal and his Uncle Nat are back in their fourth adventure, Danger at Dead Man's Pass, and I couldn't have been more excited! There's a scene at the end, for example, that is just deliciously tense nailbiting stuff and normally I'd be all 'yeah, whatever' but because it's written by Leonard and Sedgman, it is BRILLIANT. A lifelong fan of puzzles, games, and detective fiction, he grew up with a railway at the bottom of his garden and has been mad about trains ever since.

Embark on a thrilling fourth adventure in the bestselling, prize-winning Adventures on Trains series - Danger in Dead Man's Pass, from M. I think it's actually a children's book, and it was the sort of book that I'd have been very interested In between the ages of 10 and 12. MG Leonard and Sam Sedgman just keep on outdoing themselves with a series that gets better and better! There's a family which is out of the ordinary - the Kratzensteins to get to know, including working out their curse, which sends readers on a thrilling action-packed mystery to get their teeth into and solve.com to record that I am either a Student, Parent, Nursery Teacher, Primary Teacher, Secondary Teacher, Literacy Coordinator, Librarian, Bookseller, Publisher or Other so that I can receive worldbookday.

The only downside I have to complain about is that I often got confused about the characters - largely between the baron and Arnold - but asides from that, this is a pretty solid installment and I'm looking forward to the next one! The answer to the mystery seemed pretty basic, although this time I was so confused trying to keep up with the characters I didn't have time to try and piece together clues to the mystery. Uncle Nat and Hal do travel by train to get to Germany, and then the Kratzenstein's do have a private funeral train that is used for Alexander's services, but besides that, you are at the Kratzenstein's gothic-feeling home. From a creaking spooky old house at the foot of the Harz mountains, they take the Kratzenstein family's funeral train to the peak of the Brocken Mountain. The mysteries don't stop there, with such sensational intrigue at a creaky house, that has just the right amount of spookiness, with its private train line.
