Description

I was asked a couple of unexpected questions this week by a work colleague which I thought were worth sharing. Wild salmon populations in both the Atlantic and Pacific basins have declined dramatically over the last century and many populations are at imminent risk of extinction. The World Salmon Forum (WSF) brings together a coalition of scientists, advocates, and foundations dedicated to sustaining wild salmon. WSF will challenge the way in which salmon are managed and investigate the science required to underpin effective management. I had a walk at the Green bus at Barvas. Have seen it on the telly and in books before and was amazed how short the pool is between loch and sea. Must be great to see fish attempting to come in on the tide.

Boat Angling - everything welcome. The opinions expressed here are those of the private individuals, and we accept no responsibility or liability. The first was 'how many different species have you caught on the fly ' with the follow up question ' and which was your favourite 'If a person puts the time in and learns the craft of catching salmon by reading the river, learning about the way nature works and understanding about rises and falls in both river level and temperature then massive respect to them. Shane O'Reilly of Inland Fisheries Ireland with Irish Fly-tier Peter Kealey at the launch of the publication of the 1902 Cork Fly Collection Truth is though, that even when I started about 20 yrs ago when the runs of salmon and sea trout were out of this world, it was never an easy river to fish but so long as I know the fish are there, blanking for nights on end has never bothered me as I consider it my fault for not solving the puzzle.

No doubt there is a multitude of factors... predators, forestation, road run off, pollution and over fishing at sea and dont get me started on 'Fish Farms"... the list goes on and on! Forum to discuss angling from kayaks, canoes, portabotes and other coastal craft. Small boat and kayak angling in Ireland.

Of the rivers I’ve fished, the Dovey is probably my favourite for classic night fishing. Proper big holding pools on the lower river and well managed and run fishery. Roag Fisher is spot on, the Keeper said they’d had a good push of water 6-8 days before I fished and a good number of fish had run through into the Loch. gave it a couple of hours either side of high. not expecting much due to the ground swell but had bites on every cast from whiting and dogs. maybe other things too but that's what i landed.

Fly Fishing Forum

A new thread for all news, views, catches, reports in 2023 for the wonderful Ribble, Hodder and many tributaries.I have never been one for just reading a report on the internet, jumping in the car and heading to somewhere to try and catch a fish. For me it’s putting all the pieces in place and then when the take occurs I know I can say that I have mastered the art.
