The Kaweco Perkeo has been around for a couple of years now and is a decent, affordable, entry level pen, of comfortable proportions. With it’s great value and grip section, enabling fatigue-free writing the Perkeo is perfect for those looking for their first fountain pen or are in need of a work pen to get the job done. I must confess that I had experimented, in swapping the caps around to pair a black barrel with a black cap, but you still end up with a coloured band in the centre. The light can shine through the translucent plastic and is reflected by various angles and edges of the fountain pen.

Also being a lot thinner than the sides on the cap means that you will need a very high level of OCD to want to line up the top facet of the cap and barrel, which is a good thing as the cap pulls on/off, so no threads to keep everything in line. The next pen would be an EF nib no matter which one, it would be mostly for writing, with blue ink (Oxford Blue the love of my life), because I want to use my lamy mostly for art, since the nib is quite broad and I like that when drawing, also wanna put some fun color on it. And just to show how they can work I’ve used all three nibs – sometimes together to show the width contrast – with shimmer inks on Tomoe River and Cosmo Air Light papers.

I did wonder about doing a quick comparison review as I have two of the Perkeo’s chief rivals, the Lamy Safari and the Pelikan Pelikano, plus a lower level Schneider pen. This pen has a nice grip, my nib choice was medium which bring nice smooth strokes of ink to the page. The Perkeo is essentially aimed at the entry-level market, and fits there very well, but plenty of grown-up, seasoned fountain pen fans seem to rather like it too.
