Instead, we’re going to focus on what matters most to pizza makers: price, fuel choice, and convenience. With this knowledge, hopefully you can make the most informed choice with either Ooni or Roccbox. Pros and Cons For Buying Ooni or Roccbox

Pizza ovens are often billed as portable, so we weigh them and carry them a short distance, taking bulkiness and comfort into account. My only complaint with the Roccbox is that its open oven approach meant the metal on the front face gets sooty. That can be washed off, but I had to be careful not to accidentally brush it with a sleeve. Gozney Roccbox Key Specs: Keep a consistent temperature 400°C is usually ideal for cooking pizza, but it can vary depending on what type of pizza you're cooking. A consistent heat will cook your pizzas evenly and keep them from burning unexpectedly. We’re not going to focus on which portable pizza oven makes the best pizza for this review. That might seem odd, but both Ooni and Roccbox are premium pizza oven brands with excellent build quality, so it’s a given that both make great pizza.Nevertheless, cooking with the gas element of the Roccbox was a success - the pizzas were delicious and the bases well done. It was easy to cook multiple pizzas in one sitting, as I didn't find that the pizza stone lost substantial heat as I went. Ooni carries 7 different pizza oven models as of 2023, while the Gozney Roccbox is a single portable pizza oven model. This means you need to compare each Ooni pizza oven with the Roccbox to truly understand which one is better for different use cases. Heat-proof gloves Getting up close and personal with an oven that can burn at 500°C comes with its risks. Wearing heat-proof gloves will help keep you safe while adding fuel, and if necessary, when launching and rotating pizzas. Ooni offers models with multi-fuel options including wood, gas, and charcoal. Ooni also offers propane exclusive models. The wood burner design has limitations, making it less convenient for wood-fired cooking compared to gas.

The Roccbox really has only one storage rule: keep it dry. For this reason, it’s best kept in a garage or shed when not in use. As far as cleaning goes, you don’t have to do much with the interior as the high heat will rapidly incinerate any food scraps or debris. To ensure proper function, you just have to make sure the burners are kept clear of obstructions. If you’re firing it with wood, it’s also wise to empty the burner of any ash that collects as it poses a fire risk. No matter how long it’s been since your last use, you’ll want to wear protective gloves to make sure you don’t burn yourself. I know it's rare, but the idea that you can actually 'set up in minutes' is actually, for once, true. Unlike some of the best BBQs, this is an outdoor buy that takes hardly any preparation if you're hosting a garden party. Using the gas burner to make pizza The Roccbox’s Wood Burner 2.0, while efficient at its job, comes with a steeper learning curve and is more difficult to use for beginners. It requires very specific sized wood chunks that must be loaded into a small slot. Many users find this difficult and time consuming, and we agree. The additional Roccbox Cover, which is fantastic for keeping Roccbox secure and snug in all sorts of weather, has a carry strap incorporated. Can I cook in Roccbox? We say the tradeoff between price and heat retention makes the Ooni Karu 12G a better value than the Roccbox. This is especially true when you consider the Roccbox has fewer features and a less fuel efficient design. Pros: Try other dishes too Pizza isn't the only thing these ovens are good for. If you have cookware that can handle the heat, there are endless possibilities – try roasting a joints of meat, steaming a pot of mussels or even baking bread. Propane burns hotter than butane and is therefore the preferred gas for use with pizza ovens. The majority are propane-only, but some work with butane too. Wood-fired pizza ovens
