Musa was writing not just for me, but about me, and that deserves nothing less than a perfect score.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics and Relate show that by 2039, one in seven people in the UK will be living alone and today only one in six people believe in “the one”. Insecurity is the keynote of much of Musa Okwonga’s In The End, It Was All About Love, which is filtered through a distancing second person ‘you’.Love is about losing control, being swept off your feet, having no say in who you fall for (even if they are violent). They are moral because love for another is openly acknowledged rather than hidden in the secret of an affair. The reflections on his own intersectionality (being a black man, bisexual, and an immigrant in Western Europe) are interwoven with the joys and worries of daily life in a way that makes it so relatable and engaging.

Its episodic structure, offering vignettes of the narrator’s experiences that sometimes build on and refer to each other but are never corralled into a linear narrative, both make for an initially choppy reading experience, and emulate the brief-encounter mode of living that seems to be so characteristic of the narrator’s life in Berlin. It isn’t a novel, though it does pursue a single character’s development to trace, in some measure, an arc of coming-to-terms.However, it is full of beautifully written passages too and if the author's situation resembles his protagonist's as much as I felt was implied I fervently hope his life in Berlin works out the way he hopes for.

In the End Lyrics | Genius Lyrics Linkin Park – In the End Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Not because I necessarily think that this is a 5-star book -- quite frankly I'd find it difficult recommending this to most people -- but it's a 5-star book for me because I'm exactly -- precisely -- the perfect audience for this. So much so that when I took screenshots of some of the pages and sent them to a friend, they thought I was sending them my own writing. I’m probably being a teeny bit unfair, though; as the title suggests, this is an uncynical, affirmative enterprise, emphasising the necessity of self-care. My favourite is the final poem, which will get you emotional but allows you to rest assure that sometimes you are not the only who has gone through some things.Koo Pa-do states that Dae-o can no longer be part of the project but that Thumb Film will co-produce “No One But My Man”. I don't really want to critcise this as the author has clearly poured his life blood into this, but it just wasn't the book for me. The first time I encountered this technique was in Italo Calvino’s If on a winter’s night a traveller, where I was struck by the arrogance of the approach in presuming to know its reader. As she speaks, your conversation reaching far into the early hours of the next morning, you slowly begin to understand that maybe the most important work you will ever do is the work you didn't notice, the type you did while you were running off somewhere obsessed with seeing your name on some imaginary bookshelf or festival billboard.

In the End it was all About Love by Musa Okwonga - Royal

Alle wirken innerlich blitzblank, nur in unserem Inneren sieht es aus wie bei Hempels unterm Sofa, denkt sich Kioskbesitzer Armin, als er vergeblich versucht, erfolgreich zu meditieren.A colorful cover but with the simplest of titles and it’s the author Musa Okwonga that has grabbed my attention. I wish Musa Okwonga a lifetime of success and happiness, because it’s truly earned and well overdue. Don't distract yourself from it - treat it as you would treat a dear friend who has travelled many miles to reach you. It made it easy to pick up and put down and I came to look forward to my little snippets of reading at the end of long, monotonous pandemic days.
