Description

The clutch system can be disabled by removing the O-ring from the transaxle sleeve, allowing the Brain to sleep like a Fireball, but the user would still have to get the yo-yo to return manually. I would recomend this anyone who is a beginner thinking they want to a dabble with an unresponsive yoyo. Somone younger would really make it work if it is a hobbie they enjoy. However if you are looking to pull off more advanced moves the spin time may disappoint you. This is the first yo-yo to feature a patented clutch mechanism that causes the yo-yo to automatically return. Ideal yo-yo for beginners. The Brain (full name: The Yo-yo with a Brain) by Yomega is a yo-yo with a centrifugal clutch, which makes it return to the thrower's hand automatically when the yo-yo starts to lose spin. It is also the very first yo-yo to feature an auto-return clutch system. This yo-yo is great for beginners, as it helps the user to develop a strong, hard throw and to get a good grasp on the sleeper. Caffrey had met Alan Amaral through his younger sister, Joyce. Caffrey and Joyce worked together at Parker Brothers Games headquartered in Beverly, MA. The three realized the tremendous potential that an automatically sleeping, automatically returning yo-yo presents. Shortly thereafter, they incorporated, and began production in and around Fall River, MA.

In the late 1990's, Yomega partnered with Alan Nagao of HPK Marketing and helped to fuel the yo-yo boom that spread across the globe. From this partnership, Team High Performance was born, a group of skilled demonstrators that toured the world and dominated the contest scene. In this period Yomegas were heavily marketed in Japan, where Bandai produced several yo-yos under the Yomega name which were sometimes different from those sold in the U.S. Equipped with an auto-return system using a centrifugal clutch. Diameter about 59mm. Weight about 59 grams. It was also licensed to Bandai for the Hyper Yo-Yo line twice; first in the late 1990s, and in the 2010s as the CrossDragon (Japanese: クロスドラゴン).Coincidentally, the Brain had entered production about ten years after the original ProYo was patented. It was even licensed to Bandai for the Hyper Yo-Yo line in 1997 as the Hyper Brain (Japanese: ハイパーブレイン), and on April 13th, 2013 as the Wild Claw (Japanese: ワイルドクロー).

The plastic transaxle sleeve on the Brain's axle features an O-ring on one end, and that end is inserted in the body half that contains the clutch mechanism. The clutch consists of two adjacent plastic arms, which are weighted with metal balls and are connected to the inside rim of the yo-yo with springs. These arms also have teeth on the other ends around the area of the axle.

Top 5 Yo-Yos

At the turn of the century, 1999-2000, Yomega partnered with McDonald's and distributed a large number of Yomega X-Brain and Firestorm yo-yos at restaurant locations throughout the U.S. I gave it three stars because it works but it won't be a stepping stone for most people. If you or the person you are buying it for are very timid in the way to progress and explore new things than it would be a 5 star product.
