Each icon represents a punch or a motion like a duck or a step, and when you get into the faster workouts with refined movements, they can start to look similar when placed near each other (for example, the body jab and step-in jab are both red and have forward arrows. Within this mode, there are plenty of tutorials which guide you through each of the actions and combos you’ll encounter during your workouts. What’s a bit dull however is how the stretches are always the same, it would be nice if they mixed them up a bit from time to time or depending on which parts of the body you have been working on the most.

This game replicates most of what I was doing (basic striking, I'm no boxer, it was purely just to have a little variety outside of the usual workouts). I play with my gf, 29yo, and she has strong cardiovascular and abdominal fitness, but zero aggressive athletic coordination.It’s not easy, particularly when you add in moves that go beyond punching (stepping and weaving seem like a big step up from just punching, no pun intended). The mechanics are slightly tweaked in that you can now get into a groove if you throw enough “perfect” punches, but I didn’t find this to change the game in any meaningful way. There’s also a couple of tutorials where you can practise these punches to get a feeling for them, which I would highly recommend. Like with the original Fitness Boxing, these are purely instrumental reimaginings of music, rather than the original tracks themselves. Let us just throw in one suggestion if we may, though, and while such an undertaking is obviously far too late now for Fitness Boxing 2, maybe it might be an idea for the third game. A jab requires you to simply punch your front hand forward and quickly reel it back, while a straight has your twisting your body forwards, using your back foot as a booster, to thrust your back fist forwards and yank it back. When it comes to the trainers, they have slightly different personalities, but the diversity is pretty minimal and not something that got me overly excited. While this title won’t win any awards for visual fidelity, the graphics get the job done and they are far more detailed here than in the original.

Having played this, its alright but I feel like this game would have been better off as DLC for the original FB rather then a ‘full’ sequel.Once again, these are not the original tracks from the artists so don’t expect any vocals in your play sessions. My issue is the ducking and weaving which seems to only pick up the motion if you “jerk” your movement, or shake your Joycon as you move, versus the realistic motion of moving smoothly.

The accelerometers do calculate different movement speeds for the types of punches, but since you are using two Joy Con for your punches, there is a distinct lack of checking your pose and body movements during the exercises.

I think it’s important to add that these issues were not totally consistent during my playthrough, but they occurred often enough to become annoying — I ended up adjusting my playstyle to minmize their impacts. It tasks you to get off the couch, strap on your Joy-Con, and punch the air to your heart’s content.
