I have read OCS is a group that is still active but the only albums I own are this one, marchin’ already and One From The Modern and the last one of this is not only good for being a Ocean Colour Scene album but also because the way they worked with was all along mellow and laid back but there is also a will to make truly great things happen because of the fact they carry through the idea of making very special and intricate melody structures in the compositions, in the way they churned out an album with a more modest sound. Success continued for the rest of the decade and beyond: 1997’s Marchin’ Already topped the UK charts (due in no small part to the blues-scorched hit “Hundred Mile High City”) and both 1999’s One from the Modern and 2001’s Mechanical Wonder reached the Top 10. Cradock's meandering guitar lines are consistently fantastic, even if I wish he was given a bit more space to flex his muscles. In July this year, the band’s now middle-aged members will head out at Birmingham’s Moseley Park to play the album for a crowd of 2,000.

As the second half progresses things get less interesting barring 'you've got it bad' (another hit) but nothing was hugely offensive. riverboat song' copped them their first break and a big hit from chris evans tv show but the first half of the record matches it in quality. Other gems include “I Just Need Myself” and “Golden Gate Bridge”, fine outings for the band’s prowess and Cradock’s guitar playing in particular. In 2006 the band released a live acoustic album, Live at the Jam House, which consisted of fifteen live tracks and also contained four new songs in "Great Man in Waiting", "The Word", "Still Trying" and "Matilda's England". This is the album with, ”The Day We Caught the Train that is such a great song from the maturing brit pop trenches of many hard working acts,As the sophisitcation in melodies and the will even to forge ahead later on even with more intricate tunes, like ”i Won’t Get Grazed” ”Jane She got Excavated” ”July” ”Emily Chambers” or ”The Waves” this sees the band group move away from the guitar and drums and one two one onslaught on some songs on ”Shoals” which makes One For the Modern harder to get into but really so it is longer lasting in more than one way, most proninent is the way tunes are arranged and composed, but it is also due to the fact that when they came into a more mellow and reflective act the way to avoid the Buzz concerning the millenium bug they still manage to forge ahead and progress while still also being able to realise that there is a hidden potential making records like in the way One From The Modern was made.

Fowler’s aching, tuneful croon is light years ahead of anything his contemporaries offered: less laddy than Liam, less hammy than Damon, more genuine than Jarvis. Two landmark Ocean Colour Scene albums, Moseley Shoals and Marchin’ Already are set for reissue on heavyweight, 180g vinyl on 27 September, through UMC/Island. incredibly frontloaded these guys dont have an original bone in their body (in their defence, they've never claimed to be).

Chances are you find yourself, from time to time, drifting into certain boutiques, hesitating over the leather satchel with the Ministry of Defence target on, leafing through the Ben Shermans on the rack. Their music falls midway between the guitar rock of Oasis and the artier pop stylings of Pulp, with a heavier than usual emphasis on psychedelic rock and zero trace of Suede-esque glam. As I listen to it again, I am hoping that it will reach the heights of musical excellence that I expect of it. Hundred Mile High City, which is taken from the band's third studio album Marchin' Already also scored a No.

Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment.

In December 2012, the band announced the forthcoming release of their tenth studio album, Painting, which was released on 11 February 2013. Many second wave headliners are now routinely dismissed as imitators (Cast, Bluetones, Marion), whereas others remain well-regarded but disappeared after only a handful of albums (Longpigs, Mansun). I'm also very fond of "Get Away", a psychedelic/bluesy jamfest that features Cradock's best performance on the album. From the moment I saw Ocean Colour Scene give an attention-grabbing performance of “The Day We Caught the Train” on Later With Jools Holland, I knew I was going to picking up their new album. On the upside, Simon Fowler had an instantly recognisable pop-soul voice, Steve Cradock does a solid Paul Weller impression (little wonder, given he’s been a longstanding member of Weller’s backing band), and Oscar Harrison keeps an economic beat.

You see Moseley Shoals’ rifftastic opener “The Riverboat Song” was co-opted as the opening theme to ego-driven Chris Evan’s vehicle TFI Friday, the televisual bastille of hideously entitled 90s lad-culture. While I was listening to Moseley Shoals on the home stereo that evening, my dad popped into the living room, stopped dead in his tracks, looked at me and went “ Cream? It sounded so different from the other unexceptional, run of the mill, popular music doing the rounds on the British Top 40. One for the Road" was also due to be released, but the band decided to concentrate on the 1997 album release Marchin' Already.

Ocean Colour Scene - Moseley Shoals Lyrics and Tracklist - Genius

Less laddy than Liam, less hammy than Damon, more sincere than Jarvis … OCS at T in the Park in 1997.And a band from the Birmingham suburb of Moseley reached the top 10 with an album that combined cord-clad 60s nostalgia and northern soul influences with robust, melodic Britpop songcraft. It was a real shame, as songs like “One for the Road” and “Lining Your Pockets” indicated there was significantly more to Ocean Colour Scene than generic lad-rock, but I had to listen elsewhere for my musical kicks.
