Description

Engaging displays are a great way to help children feel more comfortable in the classroom. Not only do they enhance learning by displaying key points of information, but they're also valuable for keeping children interested and focused.

Display posters are a fantastic visual aid that will help create an inviting learning environment that makes children excited and eager to learn. While I loved that we were getting a fresh coat of paint, I was very sad to take down the tree that hung so nicely in our reading area. Most kids love to talk about themselves and starting school with an all-about-me activity is a good way to get to know your students as you begin to build relationships. But have you thought to set up classroom displays using the result of the project? By setting them up on the classroom walls, students can get to know their new classmates over the course of the first few weeks of school, and parents will love to spot their child on the wall. Alternatively, you can use this Large Tree Template to create a nature theme in your classroom. Perfect for helping children to learn about the world around them. On a school trip to a nature reserve or a nearby park, your KS1 class can then apply their learning to the surrounding flora and fauna learnt in school.

While I was visiting my classroom I noticed a row of cardboard and paper trees attached to the walls in the church’s hallway, leftover from Vacation Bible School. I knew one of them would be perfect for our classroom! My director got the approval for each classroom to have one, if the teachers wanted them. It took me all of one day to get that tree on our wall. The photo above shows students' designs for their ideal neighbourhood with a range of buildings, streets and locations labelled and colour-coded according to grammatical gender. Alongside their designs they produced written descriptions of each area (north, east, south, west and central). All students were asked to include a simile at the end to sum up their new neighbourhood and had to use modifiers and a range of conjunctions throughout.

Are there any countries that use trees (or parts of trees) on their flags? Can you design a new tree-themed flag? This Tree Poster for KS2 features 6 trees, with the type of leaf each tree grows in a smaller picture. Children will be able to identify the leaves they see outside, as they become familiar with the type of trees that grow in the area they live. It will be interesting for them to spot how many trees or leaves they find. Classroom displays don’t have to live exclusively on walls! If you have a window like Year 6 teacher Mr. Ebert, take advantage of its possibilities and space. Posters like these are great for visual learners, who can reference this printable tree poster for help with spelling or creative inspiration Then take the tan paper, wad it a bit for texture, and attach it to the cardboard using glue. Wadding it up a bit is what gives the texture, making it look more like wood.If possible (depending on your settings display positioning), create an interactive autumn display. Interactive displays are great for allowing children to explore, taking their learning in their own direction. Word walls are great for long-lasting and meaningful classroom displays. They help students with new vocabulary and spelling skills while also creating a colorful corner of the classroom! Teacher Bec of Adelaide uses her word walls to encourage students to use their words when writing. For example, Bec set up the heat energy word wall (seen below), and encouraged students to replace ‘the stuff’ or ‘it’ in their writing with scientific terms. Use our Parts of a Plant PowerPoint to give students a more detailed overview of the parts and functions of a plant.
