A Bright Ray of Darkness, is an unhinged story of a famous actor married to a rock star at the cusp of divorce. I want to be immune to Hawke’s charms, but I admit it: He’s written a witty, wise and heartfelt novel about a spoiled young man growing up and becoming, haltingly, a better person. Every woman in the book is either a sexual conquest or a potential sexual conquest and it’s a bit tiresome. There’s a section where the director lands his opening spiel on the cast as they gather together for the first time, I found it astounding in its power and impact. The author's love and admiration for the magic and importance of the theater is palpable and lovely.I don't know about the much part, and I'm even iffy on the better part, but not a total loss, and, Hey Mikey!

The only actor in the production not traditionally trained, he is desperate not to appear as a ticket pull for tourists.Quelled by that self-inflicted injury, he must spend a lot of time not speaking, which naturally invites everyone around him to offer advice. Hawke's talent rivals the best, so those that appreciate engaging storytelling would do well to add this to their list!
