Description

Outside, the world had become a formless, swirling mist with no shapes or shadows behind it, while the house itself seemed to have twisted and stretched. He is defiant of the Other Mother, but seems to tremble at the thought of being stuck in the Other World forever. Her other parents are eerily similar to her parents with one big difference: they have buttons for eyes. A major bombshell is dropped at the end of that section that had me questioning everything I'd read up to that point.

This type of character is usually fun and intriguing for me, but this particular execution made my head a little numb. After graduation from Vassar College, where she majored in Latin, she taught Latin for several years in Austin, Texas. Daphne also learns about an accident that took place many years ago in the tower, that is still a part of her employer's residence. This book is simply giving you a good laugh about the comical (and sometimes frustrating) situations you can find yourself trying to become a parent and then being a parent of young children. My head was full of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” meets “Phantom of the Opera” meets “The Sixth Sense”.The confusion was the interesting kind, you know when you’re reading a book and you know the narrator isn’t reliable? From the start, Daphne tries to be a good mother, but she’s plagued by dark moods and intrusive thoughts that convince her she’s capable of harming her own daughter. The book is supremely atmospheric, the characters are fascinating in their unpredictably and the pages just turn themselves. I have some specific examples I’d like to include to further explain my thoughts on “The Other Mother”. However, he lets slip some valuable information about the Other Mother for which he is punished and pushed through a trapdoor.

The Other Mother by Matthew Dicks | Goodreads

He is left unnamed, as he explains that cats do not need names to tell each other apart, but the Other Mother refers to him as "Vermin".THE OTHER MOTHER explores an unsteady marriage--one that has just experienced the birth of a new baby.
