Lauren Lyle to star as Karen Pirie in ITV cold case murder drama, based on acclaimed author Val McDermid’s The Distant Echo, adapted by Emer Kenny. Fast forward 2007 and Misha’s little boy is dying from leukemia and is need of emergency bone marrow transplant. When they are unable to find a compatible donor, Misha resolves the only way to save her son is by locating her father and comes to learn that he never went to Nottingham as they had assumed.

Val comes from Kirkcaldy, Fife, and read English at St Hilda’s College, Oxford (where she is now an Honorary Fellow). She was the first ever student from a state school in Scotland. Following graduation she became a journalist, and worked briefly as a dramatist. She believes that the novels written by her belong to the Tartan Noir crime fiction genre of Scotland. Other than writing novels, McDermid writes columns in the British newspapers and also contributes in many broadcasting channels of Europe. McDermid sponsors a stand in her name at the Raith Rovers ground in her hometown. She does this to honor her father who was a great inspiration for her. She has now become a board member of the club after sponsoring the stand for more than a year. Karen Pirie will be released on ITV on Sunday September 25, 2022 at 8pm. The first episode will be 2 hours long, finishing at 10pm. The remaining 2 episodes - also 2 hours in length - will air weekly. All episodes will immediately be available on the ITV Hub after they’ve aired.Emer said she has also been looking at other books in the series, so season two could take a completely different avenue.
