Not much magnification, obviously, though the upside is the contrast and detail is actually quite good even at F1.8. This has been a trend for Viltrox lenses – low magnification, but good performance at MFD including good contrast and detail along with a fairly flat plane of focus. Bokeh is a word used for the out-of-focus areas of a photograph, and is usually described in qualitative terms, such as smooth / creamy / harsh etc. In our experience, if you heavily abuse your gear, you will suffer the consequences soon either way, so we’d rather go for the best value, and just take decent care of our gear! By default, switching to MODE 2 changes the ring over to controlling the aperture, and if you have the Rokinon Lens Station, you can further vary its functionality.

The Samyang AF 35mm F1.4 FE II goes toe to toe with Sony’s competing G Master lens

There’s negligible axial chromatic aberration even when shooting at the widest aperture. Lateral chromatic aberration is also very minimal at f/1.4 but gets progressively a little worse as you stop down throughout the aperture range. Even at narrow apertures, it’s not generally noticeable and can be easily eliminated with in-camera correction. It's also completely silent in operation thanks to its Linear STM auto-focus motor, making it very well suited to both stills and video use. Here’s the spoiler: Despite its tiny size and low price tag, the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 FE is, in fact, incredibly sharp, and especially when stopped-down, resolution and other aspects of image quality are superb.

The best standpoint from which to appreciate the full view of a subject is the distance of the diagonal length of the subject frame. This wider angle is superior to standing closer at a 50 degree angle to get a more detailed view.Focusing is usefully internal and manual focusing is possible when the MF mode is set on the Sony camera body.
