Whereas other Batman iterations have been fully outfitted with the sleekest of Batsuits and the most evolved gadgets, The Batman’sBatsuit reflects that we are meeting a different kind of Bruce Wayne. Though 2022’s The Batmanis not an origin story, Bruce is still early into his crime-fighting career. And he really does not have it all together yet. 2022’s Batsuit Reveals Batman’s Inner State Warner Bros. Christopher Nolan filmed Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008) in Chicago before moving to Pittsburgh and New York for The Dark Knight Rises (2012). In The Art and Making of The Dark Knight Trilogy (2012), Nolan is quoted as saying he wanted to show Gotham “as one of the great cities in the world, like London or Los Angeles or Paris.” Gotham Archives has more. Map in “Claim Jumping” Map in Gotham Map in The Dark Knight Rises Artists Gotham scenes in Nolan's trilogy were filmed across several different locations including Chicago, Pittsburgh and LA. The new trilogy moved the look and feel of the city even further away from the comic book roots and planted it firmly in the real world. For Field, both director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark were brilliant collaborators, and he found them very generous in talking him through their experiences of making the film with honesty and passion.

Reeves ( Cloverfield, War for the Planet of the Apes) has steered unapologetically into the disturbing underbelly of Gotham to produce a film that demands attention and provides a punishing showcase for the talents of the movie’s cowled, scowling star Robert Pattinson. In addition, Pattinson uses a wing suit to glide off the tops of buildings. This is in contrast to the Christopher Nolan (and even Tim Burton) heroes that utlized their capes as a make shift gliding wing. Accepting the physics of all of these gliding methods, Bale and Keaton’s version would function like a hang glider. Pattinson’s, on the other hand functioned like any standard wingsuit. Therein lies the problem! While hang gliders can coast in for a safe landing, a wingsuit has to deploy their parachutes and float the rest of the way to the ground -- they simply can't reduce their speed fast enough for a safe landing without the use of a chute. We were playing with Gotham as having this prewar boom time, looking at a lot of architecture from movie palaces where we could play with ornaments and shapes in different ways. It created this idea that the city has fallen on hard times and had various booms and busts along the way, with a lot of unfinished skyscrapers and partially complete construction projects. First up, a full look at the concept art of the suit. We can see how Batman’s Batsuit evolved from plan to screen. Warner Bros. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City. It was the little tidbits that I loved - like the inspiration of Stephen King’s Christine on the Batmobile, or the specific comics that informed this incarnation of Batman,” Field adds. “Having not seen Colin Farrell’s transformation into the Penguin in person, I found it particularly fascinating to learn more about the choices and physical process behind that.”

Robert Pattinson also notes the following about his Batman, “He’s nowhere at home except on the street when he’s wearing the suit. He lives a criminal life, but without committing crimes! I felt like I could get something out of that. Anyway, I could only play a superhero if he was really dirty! (Laughs.)” The Batmobile] has to make an appearance out of the shadows to intimidate, so I thought of it almost like Stephen King’s Christine. I liked the idea of the car itself as a horror figure, making an animalistic appearance to really scare the hell out of the people Batman’s pursuing. There is absolutely a horror-genre aspect to this movie. Warner Bros. The most striking of the above alternate trap designs may be the one that features a whole set-up of tubes, allowing the rats to get some exercise after feasting on the victim’s face. Other designs are more simple and straight-forward, including one that’s literally just a square wire box strapped to the victim’s body with a couple rats crawling around inside. Another design employs a clear pane of glass so The Riddler can scrawl his catchphrase “No More Lies” on it.

SCARECROW Movie Set In Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN Universe Rumored To Be In The Works

One piece of artwork actually leans a little more heavily into the comic books with that classic shot of Batman using his cape to swoop through his home. Schumacher’s production designer, Barbara Ling, drew inspiration from 1930s Manhattan and the Neo-Tokyo of the 1988 anime Akira. She kept what she called the larger-than-life “World’s Fair proportions” so as to “not lose Gotham’s sensibility of overbearingness burdened by crooks.” Gotham in Batman Batman Forever concept art Batman Forever concept art Gotham in Batman Forever

The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular Dark Knight, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/ Penguin. It also features Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Alex Ferns, and twins Max and Charlie Carver. Also starring Jeffrey Wright (James Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth) and Zoë Kravitz (Selina Kyle/Catwoman), The Batman sees Pattinson's Bruce face off against the likes of Colin Farrell (as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin) and Paul Dano (Edward Nashton/Riddler). Reeves again shares, “The Nolan films established the Batmobile as a tank, which was a brilliant idea… But I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if this guy is a loner and a gearhead and fashioning these things by himself, taking parts of other cars and kit cars? So it’s recognizable as a car this time. But it’s like a muscle car. One that he’s made himself.” The first movie that he remembers being a passionate fan of was the first Toy Story movie. This led to a love of animated movies and television series. In addition to classic Disney animation and the Looney Tunes shorts, Adam is also a big fan of animation from the 1990s. This includes TV shows like Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Goof Troop. He is also a big fan of shows like The Simpsons and Futurama. The gadgets that Batman utilizes are problematic at best. Reeves Dark Knight utilizes a grappling gun that ejects from his wrist guards. Based on this design that means the rope spools from somewhere in his costume which seems unfeasible given that the cord which would measure 50 to 100 feet or more would have to unspool at a hyper speed seering whatever it is touching which in this case would be Pattinson’s arm.Of course the “riddling” aspect of The Riddler was retained in The Batman, giving Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne a dark mystery to solve. That mystery indeed unfolded in creepy fashion as The Riddler went around Gotham murdering the powerful in ways intended to send messages to Batman. Undoubtedly the creepiest of The Riddler’s kills saw him murdering commissioner Pete Savage by affixing a trap to his head that forced rats to burrow their way into the victim’s face and eat him alive. This particular killing method in fact seemed to have more in common with Saw villain Jigsaw than The Riddler’s primary inspiration, the Zodiac.

Alongside this wealth of information, we’ve now been given a closer look at 2022’s Batsuit, alongside some insights into its creation from The Art of The Batman. The Art of the Batman will feature 250 full-color illustrations written by James Field, who has recently worked as a Production Liaison for both The Batman and The Flash. Readers will get an insider’s look at the design and production process for The Batman, including insightful interviews with the filmmaking team and cast; never-before-seen conceptual paintings and set photos exploring this new version of Gotham City; shot-by-shot comparisons between the film and storyboards; and a closer look at the designs for the costumes, vehicles, gadgets, riddles, and more. There were mixed reactions to the costume initially, with some laughing at the Riddler's appearance. Given that it was such a departure from prior representations, some took to social media to compare The Batman character to The Gimp from Pulp Fiction and even Michelangelo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Many came to the movie's defense though, expressing interest in its similarities to the Zodiac Killer, and with Dano's disturbing portrayal receiving so much praise upon its release, a lot of negative opinions have since changed.

THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Waititi Says He Only Made The Movie For Money And Knew Nothing About The Hero

Designer James Chinlund shares, “The design process was like finding a way of letting Bruce reveal his character and the intimidation factor of recognizing like ‘Oh, my God. That’s Batman!”—but at the same time keeping it under wraps low-key. Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Gone were the hulking statues and twisted spires, replaced instead with gritty slums and industrial infrastructure. Real-world locations The previous two films were very fantastical, very comic book-like. We really wanted to push the realism and the belief that this could really happen. In The Dark Knight In The Dark Knight Rises In The Dark Knight Rises Eric Gagnon did the concept art for the previous game in the series, Batman: Arkham Origins (2013). Map Taken from the "Art of" book that's just been released, we get a closer look at the Batsuit donned by Robert Pattinson in the movie, along with the wingsuit his Bruce Wayne used to fly through Gotham City's imposing skyline. As we saw in the movie, this Dark Knight didn't have the smoothest of landings - a reminder that the vigilante is still in a very early stage of his vigilante career.
