While this story starts out in a serious vein, for the most part, this is a light, fun, and super swoony story. I love how Kandi gives us a female college footballer in Riley, our determined, sassy, and loyal heroine. It was so fun to see that trope flipped on its head and to watch her work through all her conflicting emotions when it comes to her twin brother’s best friend (and her ex-friend), teammate, AND unexpected roommate Zeke. Though Riley struggles with forgiveness and makes some snap judgment in the story, Kandi always humanizes her- this is a young woman figuring out how to navigate unusual situations, with her own head and heart in constant battle.
