I was surprised as i expected there to be deviations in sound across all formats buts its very even. With a cassette deck, you can also go truly old school and record mix tapes again from any of the other sources – should you be able to track down a blank tape of course. So first impressions were that it weighed much more than i thought it would, i knew the battery was a modern type so i was surprised at that. The tweeters as many should know by now are real and work really well, I hear the highs pretty clearly so no complaint there from me.

The tape mechanism uses a thin metal chassis with plastic gears (not uncommon) for rewind and fast forward. It’s perfectly fine for a party in the park, but think at least about whether you’d truly want this as your primary listening device.

It sorta has a hollow feel to it but with understanding that todays tech does not require as much space as it once did. They’ve saved money on battery capacity and the associated charging gear but these are performance limiting factors. CD and USB playback can be controlled from the main panel above the cassette slot, and tape playback from the tape control panel below the tape slot. Looks like they incorporated rear speaker ports into the mold, the speakers are isolated from the rest of the internals when both the front shell and rear are screwed together. It is, ostensibly, portable then, with a rechargeable battery that you have to connect yourself out of the box, shoehorned in where you’d otherwise expect springs for D-class batteries.
